One of the fun things about Pick 4 games is that there are so many different ways to play, and Michigan Daily 4 is no exception. There are five different play types, and for some of them, choosing the same number more than once will affect your odds and prizes too! It's all explained below:
For this play type, your chosen numbers must match the drawn numbers in the exact order. This play type has some of the lowest winning odds, but naturally, it also comes with the top prize of $5,000.
For Box plays, your chosen numbers must match the drawn numbers, but the order they come in doesn't matter. For Box plays, picking the same number more than once affects the game's odds and prizes.
If you'd like the bigger prize that comes with a Straight play, plus the better odds of a Box, try the Two-Way. Your $1 bet is split into a $0.50 Straight and a $0.50 Box. If you win the Box, you'll get half the regular box prize. If you win the straight, you get half the regular Straight prize AND half the Box too!
Get Box play odds for Straight play prizes! For every possible arrangement of your chosen numbers, you'll get a separate Straight ticket. For example, playing a Wheel with 1234 would cost you $24, but you'd get 24 tickets! Choosing the same number more than once will affect the odds and ticket costs for Wheel plays, but not prizes.
This play type lets you win by matching your numbers in exact order, like a Straight, but you also win if one of your numbers is one above or below the drawn number. For example, if you played 1234, you could win with 1235. In practice, this means you've always got 9 chances to win with every ticket.
We've mentioned a couple of times that playing the same numbers more than once affects the odds, prizes, and ticket costs for Michigan Daily 4. Specifically, the Box, Two-Way, and Wheel play types.
For these play types, you can win by matching the numbers in any order, which is in practice, like putting a bet on every possible arrangement of your chosen numbers. However, there are 24 different ways to arrange 1234, but only 4 ways to arrange 1112. 1234 has 6X more chances of winning than 1112! This is known as the number of "Ways". Playing four unique numbers is a 24-way play, but there are also 12-Ways, 6-Ways, and 4-Ways.
For Box and Two-Way plays, numbers with fewer Ways have worse odds, but to compensate for this, their prizes are much bigger. For Wheel plays, the odds improve if you play more Ways, but the ticket price also increases, while prizes stay the same. If you're still unsure how it all works, you can use the table and Winning Combinations tool below to help wrap your head around it.
